Superior's history is one of coal mining. The first mines in the area were developed in the late 1800's. The Town itself was founded in 1896 and incorporated in 1904. The Town reportedly was named after the "superior" quality of coal found in the area.

Today, Superior is a vibrant and thriving community. Strategically placed between Boulder and Denver, Superior offers all the amenities of a big city with the charm of a small town. Superior has 540 acres of parks and open space as well as 25 miles of trails. It also offers convenient access to some of the best shopping the Front Range has to offer.
